Bacteriostatic Water: Composition & Laboratory Use
Bacteriostatic water is sterile, nonpyrogenic water containing benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. Pharmaceutical labels list benzyl alcohol at 0.9% (9 mg/mL) or 1.1% (11 mg/mL); confirm the concentration on your vial label.
In laboratory work it is used as a diluent for dissolving lyophilized materials. The published product label describes its composition and labelled warnings.
Benzyl alcohol can be incompatible with some materials and assays, so check compatibility with your protocol and the documentation for the material being dissolved.
Canada Peptide Supply currently lists 10mL, 2 x 10mL and 30mL vials as a laboratory supply. It is sold for laboratory research use only.
Research use only: this information is provided for scientific reference. Canada Peptide Supply does not provide medical advice. Bacteriostatic water is sold here as a laboratory supply for research use only.
